I am indeed honoured and humbled to be associated with such great minds in my constituency in a small seemingly unknown place like Voi to celebrate a causne e that will change our face forever as long as we embrace it. This is only the sure way to remain relevant in world of today.
Voi is a unique destination and most people think we are that small town on your way to Mombasa with nothing much offer. Iam so glad that today that story has changed!
Voi consists of one of the great national parks in the country, the best tsavorite gemstone being mined in the world, unexplored rich land for great investments. I am delighted to have VOI AFROCITI WEBSITE being launched today. Now the whole world will know who we are! Please join with me in appreciation of this great initiative to change our destiny for the better.
For this reason I think we should really applaud POWERTALKS LIMITED for such initiatives as this website launch for which we are gathered. This website is a community tool for us all.
Very few people realise the investment potential that Voi has. Everywhere you look there is great potential for investment. If you are into hotel and tourism industry, Voi provides a strategic location for even a five star hotel, cultural tourism and sports tourism. If you are in the gemstone & jewellery business, Voi has some of the rarest gems in the world.
Our main challenge has not been in the lack of opportunity but rather in the invisibility that we have had. For this reason I am confident that this proposed website and other similar events are very pivotal to transforming Voi into the truly great business destination that it is.
This website will give an opportunity for the world to see Voi in a totally different light. It also affords us to opportunity to showcase our products ourselves. A lot of African history has been written and showcased by non Africans. However the truth is that until the lion begins to tell stories, stories about the lion and the hunter will always be in favour of the hunter. This gathering today is us telling our own.
I would like to appreciate all who have participated in today’s launch, grant draw, exhibition. This should be an encouragement to the private sector to make aware of what is available. Let us celebrate our values and creativity. Let us begin to value our own.
The Chinese and Koreans did not start perfect but they started. They went around having exhibitions. They used the power of the media and they maximised the use of technology in getting the message across to the rest of the world.
The world needs to see what we have. We need to be confident to support, display and exhibit what we have. When we celebrate our own, in the course of time, people may despise us, they may make fun of us but if we hang in there and continue to improve our quality as we intensify our determination the world will come round and take note.
Here in Voi, let us put politics behind and focus on improving ourselves and what we have been endowed with. We should concentrate on solving the daily challenges that come our way keeping in mind that everyone is a stakeholder towards development in this land.
The three keys areas that I would put emphasis on towards change in this constituency are:
- Water problem alleviation- We shall continue to mobilise our forces to ensure that water problem is no longer a factor to consider in this constituency.
- Quality Education:- Emphasis will be given towards lifting the education level of our children and offering the best training centers for the sake of tomorrow. With the five public primary schools that are present, early childhood education programs, secondary schools and the recently opened JKUAT Campus at Mariwenyi, we shall contribute to promote quality education in this institutions.
- Economic empowerment: - I have strongly believed in our potential for greatness. I have also seen that the 21st century has provided us with the tools to fast track our development and cooperation. I hereby call forth all the leaders in all public and private sector. Focus on business that will also generate employment. Work to promote the small scale industry and offer opportunities for growth, a call to all financial institutions in the land.
Let us sit together as we are now and come up with solutions rather than creating problems. This is another opportunity we are presenting to the world about us. And as a result of this today, we are proud to be online – on www.voi.afrociti.com
With the recent letter I received of invitation to this launch, I noticed the website has had 15,728 new visitors in the month of July. This tells us that VOI is ready for the world and the world is ready for VOI.
Lets us share Voi with the rest of the world.
Lets us through the power of technology and the power of the internet, aim to push trade and relations between us and the outside world to great heights.
