| Voi City has all over a sudden turned green. This follows the rains that have continued to visit the area giving great hope for a good harvest. Farmers can be seen running up and down with their implements
hanging on their shoulders trying to catch up with the blessing from heaven. The biggest hurdle has been lack of enough seed to plant due to its market price and the poverty that has continued to bite in the area. |

| Wundanyi MP asks for a share |
Date Updated 2008-09-02 |

| Wundanyi MP Hon. Thomas Ludindi Mwadeghu, recently called on the government to seriously consider handing over the Tsavo National Park to the local community. He however indicated that the management of the Park will continue being in the hands of Kenya Wildlife Service because they have a professional hand. The MP echoed these sentiments saying that the local community has not benefited much from wildlife yet it
is their resource. Mr. Mwadeghu felt that the community would get more benefits if the Park is directly under their control. This has to see a bill in Parliament go through for his dreams to come through. |

| Singila residents cry foul |
Date Updated 2008-09-02 |
|
| A meeting recently called by Taita District Commissioner to look into ways of distributing land to Singila and Majengo residents in Mwatate Constituency, took a different direction when the residents took a stand against Teita Sisal Estate. The government wanted a census to be carried out to determine the number of people in the area before the distribution is done. It clearly came out that Teita Sisal Estate,
a multinational in sisal business in the area, was trying to coerce the government into buying part of its illegally acquired land for the resettlement of the people. Led by George Mwamodo, Secretary General
of the Taita Council of Elders, the residents resolved to first know the boundary and area of land that is legally owned by the Sisal Estate. Mwamodo indicated that more than 70,000 acres of land under sisal
cultivation were acquired illegally and the people must be given back their land and all squatters resettled. |
